Canadian Cancer Society fundraising along with some New Westminster local businesses were presented in River Market, on April 13th. Among all the events there were 8 sports and martial arts demonstrations. Organizer of the event thought that it might be interesting for visitors to see Nakamura Ryu Battodo, a martial art that I am practicing and teaching, so my small dojo was invited. I was demonstrating kata (forms), kata with opponent and test cutting. Following photographs will show just a part of it, there will be more when I got them from organizer. And, hopefully, a link to You Tube video.

Yay, a good news! Congrats on the demonstration, Darko. People must enjoy for sure π
I hope they did. In fact, I was informed that two people are interested to start practicing, so that’s good π
Looking forward to see more and the YouTube video! π
Me too. I want to check how it looked like to other people π
I think I’ve seen a demo of that before. Very strange motions if I remember correctly. All efficiency and no waste. Hope you get the video link, it’d be interesting to watch. Is it just your part of the event or all the other schools as well?
My demonstration was part of the event. The other martial arts (Karate and Tae Kwon Do, full contact,…) had their own demonstrations later during the day.
Coolio. Looking forward to the video.
Your look , your figure i think you look like a warrior of the past time, really you are admirable gdare
Rania, important part of kata is called zanshin, it is complete focus on your opponent. One of the biggest errors in kata (or in a real combat, eventually on everything in your life) is losing a focus. So we practice it thoroughly.
Thanks π
focusing , sometimes it is matter of life or death
It’s great to be able to demonstrate something you love doing. I remember the videos you put up on Opera a couple of times. Fascinating movements.
You seem to look even taller in the robe…..I know there is a name for it, but can’t remember.
Most people use the wrong word for it, “kimono” which is a word used for clothes, in modern times Japanese clothes. Clothes used in Martial Arts are, in general, called “gi” (read as ghee), Coat is called “keikogi” (but sometimes it used to name a complete uniform for Martial Arts) and pants are called “hakama”. Under hakama I am wearing “zubon” which is another word for pants, but in this case they look like plain white cotton pants for Karate or Aikido. I am having tabi, some kind of socks and these ones are also made for Martial Arts training.
You can’t see it, but I am also wearing “obi” (belt) which is help me holding the sword in place, while it is in scabbard.
It is all a bit confusing π
That looks so cool π
Thank you π
