Yeah, another great place we visited couple of weeks ago. Not too hard to hike to but long – about 9km one way – and with elevation gain of about 1000m. That meant constant climbing on the way to lake; going back was not easier even though it was downhill. Next day we were tired as hell but as I always say, it was worth the effort.

Also, while being on Taylor Meadows and, later, on Black Tusk Meadows, we've been able to see our goal for next year. Black Tusk.
Black Tusk
It won't be possible to climb there and go back in a day – I mean, maybe it would be but we don't like to run there and then run back before the dark π – so we will make it a two or even three days hike; need to think about many things as well, where to leave the car and how to come to it afterwards since we probably won't return the same way back :sherlock: But we have a whole year to figure it out, there's no rush π

Very nice again :up:A 2-3 days hike? It's a interesting project! But you have to be very well prepared if you really want to enjoy it. π
Nice. π
I think we will hike to the meadows. Camp there for the night. Then climb to the Tusk the next day. It's about 3 1/2 hours. Then come back down, camp overnight and leave the next day. That way we don't have to worry about the car. But we gave a ride to a couple earlier in the year who went back down over the other side. Then they were walking down along the gravel road back to the highway. They were so tired they didn't want to hike 5 more km. down that bumpy road. We gave them a ride to the highway and then I think they had a friend pick them up from there. Well, we'll see.
Every time a new post comes up on my list from you lately, I want to stab you in jealousy. You know that, right? I just know when I click I will see such breathtaking nature and you live right there near it π‘
I think it's time he made a post about rain now. π
You must really be getting your hiking legs! Wonderful scenery. Does the Tusk require any alpine skills or is it just a scramble up the scree to the summit?Originally posted by sanshan:
I guess he's going to have plenty of opportunities to blog about rain over the next few months π
Louis, San said most about our plans for next year. Of course we should be prepared, there are a lot to think about from clothing and food/water to tent and sleeping bags. Now I remembered your trip to Iceland few years ago :cool:Ana, thanks :)Kimmie, yes, you are right, most of the posts I made this year are almost in my neighbourhood – about an hour by car + hiking time. I plan to make a post about all places we've seen this year and then you will see how small that is compared to the rest of the province :DSan, I remember how tired they were. If we decide to return that way maybe we could try to hitchhike and then take a bus from Whistler, or….Adele, this is what they say on vancouvertrails.com about climbing to a very top of Black Tusk:Most hikers end their hike to the Tusk at this point before heading back. Although it is possible to make it onto the peak of the Tusk it is not recommended as it is extremely dangerous and discouraged by BC Parks. So, no, we will not do that because neither of us have enough of that kind of experience – even though San did some rock climbing in the past. Nice scenery is most that I would like to experience there π
Wow, that Tusk looks like an old volcanic neck … considering the locality, I suspect that's just what it is. They're damned difficult to climb, and unless you're experienced at that sort of thing, I'd stand at the base and admire it.As for equipment, there is an excellent store located fairly close to you; it's a coΓΆp, and I think I've got the lowest-number membership in the Midwest … I joined in the '60s. It's called Recreational Equipment Inc., REI for short, and they have the best and widest selection of outdoor and mountaineeering equipment I've ever seen. Get their catalogue, or look them up online … they originated in Seattle, but there's even a store in Milwaukee. There might be one in BC; I don't know. Also, be sure to get local information on the place, so you know what to prepare for … I've seen some of the shelters they sell that literally hang suspended from pitons on a sheer vertical rock face. I don't think you'll be looking for something like that, but it's an example of the range of their equipment.Above all, if all else fails, remember my standard rule:"If it ain't fun, I ain't doin' it!"
Wow, Canada is a country with all the beautiful lakes
I am not sure about the rest of Canada – I've never been outside BC so far – but it seems like that. I use to say that BC is a province of tens of thousands of springs but when snow and ice are melted all that remain are the lakes. And yes, they are beautiful!
You are killing me with these pictures π
Would probably have a very hard time deciding to leave if I ever visited these places.

It is the edge of an old volcano. We won't climb it, just hike up to the camping area at the base. We may or may not camp there. Heard from someone that wolverines were seen up there the previous week!

Actually, it's called MEC, Mountain Equipment Coop and we are already members. What I like about them is that you can rent to own, and if you don't like something you buy you can return it anytime, even if it's been used. No profit at all.
Good … just thought I'd pass the word.
Love that first picture, even though it looks cold!
Wow, which amazing views! Lovely! Only those views make all the effort worth it!
Mit π I bet you could make nice photos from Vietnam, too :yes:Star, on a day like that, it is hard to decide when to leave. Only a fact that we needed to hike more than 9km to get to car, made us decide when to leave.MizzM, thanks :cheers:Rose, a day was nice but a water was very cold :smurf:

…and you think this will make me want to hurt you LESS? π
It's okay, I know lots of caves we can hide out in until the crisis is over.
Hm, we should go see some, winter is coming we should go underground π
Awww, caves are cool. TAKE PICTURES *hyperventilates*
Well, I know we will go to Britannia Mine Museum, hope that counts
 Don't tell her! She'll find us! :faint:
Hmmm??? I wonder what connection there is between Garibaldi Lake and Garibaldi Accordions? Could Garibaldi Lake be the birth place of Garibaldi Accordions? Seriously, that 2nd Pic is Ehhh, what's a Wolverine, a Bigfoot and a Sasquatch here and there? Nothing a Battodo can't handle. π
I envy you such a vast and beautiful land to explore!
these posts are actually motivating us to get to hiking finally. Just not having this type of beautifull scenery is a bummer.
I will find you indeed. I will hurt you for seeing so many pretty naturey things, and then I will steal your beautiful cat.
San, :zip:Carlos, I've never heard of Garibaldi Accordions :left:Words, yes I feel very happy to be here :happy:Clint, you've got it man :yes:KimmieOriginally posted by Spaggyj:

Wonderful nature
Mira, it is, thanks
Wow, beautiful terrain and the lake is gorgeous! Glad you are making the rounds of BC. There is probably much more to see too. Reminds me of the bit of hiking I did way back when. Even had a baby in a carrier on my back! Gotta find those pictures! Because even I don't believe it. dW, I used to have a membership to REI. I loved their hiking shorts.
If I remember rightly, every outdoor place has something along those lines today; they're called "cargo shorts".If you once had a membership to REI, you still do … you can have them chase it down for you. No stores in the Dakotahs, however … Minnesota, though.
Pam, I think I remember you saying something about it. It was down there in Arizona, right?
Yes, mostly in Arizona: Grand Canyon, Havasupai Canyon, Gold Canyon which is around the Superstition Mountains. Also, Yosemite National Park (I forget the state) and around Mount Ranier in Washington State.
Definitely worth the effort- what a fantastic sight π
Pam, make a post :up:Chthoniid – and it is just a little part of this beautiful Canadian province
aaaaa…so…beautiful!!
It is
