Yeah, another great place we visited couple of weeks ago. Not too hard to hike to but long – about 9km one way – and with elevation gain of about 1000m. That meant constant climbing on the way to lake; going back was not easier even though it was downhill. Next day we were tired as hell but as I always say, it was worth the effort.

Also, while being on Taylor Meadows and, later, on Black Tusk Meadows, we've been able to see our goal for next year. Black Tusk.

It won't be possible to climb there and go back in a day – I mean, maybe it would be but we don't like to run there and then run back before the dark 😛 – so we will make it a two or even three days hike; need to think about many things as well, where to leave the car and how to come to it afterwards since we probably won't return the same way back :sherlock: But we have a whole year to figure it out, there's no rush 😀

I think we will hike to the meadows. Camp there for the night. Then climb to the Tusk the next day. It's about 3 1/2 hours. Then come back down, camp overnight and leave the next day. That way we don't have to worry about the car. But we gave a ride to a couple earlier in the year who went back down over the other side. Then they were walking down along the gravel road back to the highway. They were so tired they didn't want to hike 5 more km. down that bumpy road. We gave them a ride to the highway and then I think they had a friend pick them up from there. Well, we'll see.
Every time a new post comes up on my list from you lately, I want to stab you in jealousy. You know that, right? I just know when I click I will see such breathtaking nature and you live right there near it 😡

Louis, San said most about our plans for next year. Of course we should be prepared, there are a lot to think about from clothing and food/water to tent and sleeping bags. Wow, that Tusk looks like an old volcanic neck … considering the locality, I suspect that's just what it is. They're damned difficult to climb, and unless you're experienced at that sort of thing, I'd stand at the base and admire it.As for equipment, there is an excellent store located fairly close to you; it's a coöp, and I think I've got the lowest-number membership in the Midwest … I joined in the '60s. It's called Recreational Equipment Inc., REI for short, and they have the best and widest selection of outdoor and mountaineeering equipment I've ever seen. Get their catalogue, or look them up online … they originated in Seattle, but there's even a store in Milwaukee. There might be one in BC; I don't know.Also, be sure to get local information on the place, so you know what to prepare for … I've seen some of the shelters they sell that literally hang suspended from pitons on a sheer vertical rock face. I don't think you'll be looking for something like that, but it's an example of the range of their equipment.Above all, if all else fails, remember my standard rule:"If it ain't fun, I ain't doin' it!"

I am not sure about the rest of Canada – I've never been outside BC so far – but it seems like that. I use to say that BC is a province of tens of thousands of springs but when snow and ice are melted all that remain are the lakes. And yes, they are beautiful! :yes:

Wow, beautiful terrain and the lake is gorgeous! Glad you are making the rounds of BC. There is probably much more to see too. Reminds me of the bit of hiking I did way back when. Even had a baby in a carrier on my back! Gotta find those pictures! Because even I don't believe it. dW, I used to have a membership to REI. I loved their hiking shorts.
If I remember rightly, every outdoor place has something along those lines today; they're called "cargo shorts".If you once had a membership to REI, you still do … you can have them chase it down for you. No stores in the Dakotahs, however … Minnesota, though.

Yes, mostly in Arizona: Grand Canyon, Havasupai Canyon, Gold Canyon which is around the Superstition Mountains. Also, Yosemite National Park (I forget the state) and around Mount Ranier in Washington State.
Definitely worth the effort- what a fantastic sight 🙂
