Alouettes vs. BC Lions

Even though I don't have a clue about football (American football for my European readers), San thought it would be a good idea to spend a nice day watching a game between Alouettes from Montreal and our BC Lions club. I was never had the opportunity to see that before so I liked the idea as well
Here are some of the most exciting moments from a game:

Serious lenses 😎

Oh, and the result was 43:10 for BC Lions

😀
I dedicate this post to Louis, one of my first Opera Community friends, great photographer and Alouettes supporter

So you understand the rules of the game now?

  2. volkuro says:

Thanks for the dedication  For some reason, I prefer much more your post than Sandy's. Maybe it's your choice of photos that highlights in a better way the greatest strengths of the Lions team. :DYou could avoid posting the last one though 🙄

  3. Suntana says:

Cool! And THERE you have it Darko. As evidenced by the totally unbiased, totally journalistic-based, gender-neutral, totally 100% random photographs that you took … I'd say you have gotten the gist of American style Football. Oh sure, rumor has it that there are actually some rules to the game and some general pattern. But, you can pick that up later gradually. The important thing is that you have already learned the IMPORTANT aspect of the game. Would it be safe to assume that you have been … by The Force? :left: :right: Uhhh, Okay, no need to answer if it is NOT SAFE to answer, Darko. :insane:

  4. gdare says:

San, some of it, yes. I am not quite sure about who is having ball and when, sometimes it gets confusing…Louis, the last one is a proof that I was following what was happening in a game 😛

  5. Suntana says:

Since you and San actually had some money left over to go eat at a restaurant afterwards, I take it it wasn't the ultra mega super expensive outing that going to a Pro Football Game is over here in the USA. I last went to a Dallas Cowboys game back in 87 and it was expensive then. Nowadays, I hear that if a family of 4 wants to go to a Pro Football game, they have to sell their house or get a loan. :insane: Yep, with 4 tickets, food, drinks, beer and souvenirs … Wooooooo! Yeah, over here, depending on the Football Team, the ticket prices are ridiculously expensive. :ko:

  6. sanshan says:

Actually it was pretty expensive…and the beer! We could buy a 6 pack for what one cost at the stadium. But, we don't really go out that much and we watch our savings pretty carefully. Have to enjoy life a little! 🙂

  7. gdare says:

Carlos, San answered to your second question. Just to add: a can of Budweiser costs 9 CAD  :faint:As for assimilation… Resistance is futile, you know that 😛

  8. Suntana says:

Yep, I can believe that one beer there at the stadium cost what you would normally pay for a 6-pack out in the real world. They really like to stick it to you at places / events like that where they know you're going to be for hours. They'll prohibit bringing in any food or drinks and then they'll extort a fortune out of you IF you dare get hungry and thirsty.

  9. Suntana says:

Yes, Darko, I know the feeling. :left: :right:I figured resistance was futile. Even :norris: wouldn't have stood a chance.

  10. sanshan says:

They even checked my tiny little purse for food and alcohol!

  11. chthoniid says:

Curious that most of the exciting moments involved the cheerleaders. I assume the game wasn't able to hold your interest nearly as well.

  12. Suntana says:

Technical Question … VERY Technical Question:What does it say on the back of the Cheerleaders' Shorts? :sherlock: I seriously can't make it out.It doesn't quite say Lions and I don't think it says British Columbia. And it's too short to say, "What are you doing looking here? Shouldn't you be looking at the game?"

Absolutely! And once a year, a 9$ beer with a live game are worth spending. 🙂

  14. sanshan says:

Oh, I can attest to the fact he stood up and cheered when there were touchdowns. His wife is much more exciting than those cheerleaders. 🙄

  15. gdare says:

Chthoniid, San and me agreed to make two posts, her being serious and mine just a joke. Those girls are too young and besides, I am happily married. But I must say it was a fun seeing something so characteristic for what I was able to see only on TV while living in Europe :DCarlos, it says "Felions", abbreviation for Female Lions, I suppose. This is the name of that cheerleader group. Of course, I've found that out from pamphlets they were offering us, of course :whistle:Louis, San told me having a beer at the stadium is a tradition so I agreed to have… at least one

  16. Suntana says:

Why of course. Pamphlets. That's it. It couldn't be anything else. I believe you, Darko. Very plausible. I'll back you up with that story. Oops! I mean, with that FACT. :headbang:

  17. sanshan says:

He even remarked, "Are those girls old enough to drink?"

Mm. That's a good system [:)] To be honest I was a bit curious about the abiility of the game to hold your attention (even without distractions). I'm not from the US and have never watched a game of American Football. So hoped this wasn't a symptom of a dull game [:)]

  19. gdare says:

Carlos, :cool:San, they looked very young, you've seen that.Chthoniid, everything was new to me, no special distraction to keep my eyes from the game 😀

In their defense, they weren't drinking.

  21. Suntana says:

Seriously though, Darko, hopefully you do gradually start grasping the rules and gist of the game. Because without having at least a beginning knowledge of that, it'll of course come across as just mass confusion. It would be like me trying to figure out what's going on in ohhh say … Rugby.I don't know anything about Rugby. So, when I see clips of it, I just see a bunch of guys piling up and pushing as if engaged in a group dancing or something. Then again, at this point, to you, Darko, American Football probably looks exactly like that! :yikes: Or like Hockey … I know nothing about it except that the idea is to get the Puck over into the Net contraption. Goal? 😆 Other than that, I don't know any of the rules or strategies, Etc. ARE there rules in Hockey? To me it comes across as 60% legalized fighting … broken up by 40% of something resembling actual playing.

  22. gdare says:

Actually, I know and understand hockey more than football.. Or rugby, anyway. I was thinking it was the same thing about ten years ago 😛

  23. Stardancer says:

Yep. A true football fan. A male football fan, anyway.:lol:Glad you had fun, Darko.

  24. Zulia says:

American football is fun to watch but i have never saw a real game before!Just those movies bout footballs and their heroes. This is a great movie- http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invincible_(2006_film)Eh, got any more pics of the footballers? Too many cheerleaders butt! Hahahahahaha

  25. Furie says:

    :left::right: Was this about cheerleaders?

  26. gdare says:

Zulia, go to San's blog, you will find the photos you like :DMik, no, about football game

  27. Furie says:

    :sst: Fake tans.

  28. Furie says:

The photos betray your true interest in the sport. 😉

  29. sanshan says:

You were looking at the tans?

  30. gdare says:

Mik, this is why I train martial arts 😀

  31. qlue says:

I think I could learn to enjoy this game!

  32. Suntana says:

    Can't wait for tomorrow.More Football!!!

  33. edwardpiercy says:

    Cheerleaders!And then there's that football stuff. :p

  34. gdare says:

Aadil, Carlos, Ed – it is another game on right now as I write this. BC Lions are sort of struggling against Toronto Argonauts. 28:23 for BC Lions so far :hat:Feliones are there as well

  35. Suntana says:

Whoa! Even though I mentioned "More Football" just yesterday, I had already forgotten about that. 😆 Since the NFL Football season began just last week, I'm still not accustomed to thinking "It's Sunday … FOOTBALL!" I was sitting here leisurely thinking, "Okay, in half an hour, I'll eat lunch." And then presumably I'd go back to roaming around MyOpera or work on a Blog Design.Suddenly it hit me, "Wait a minute! Football! I don't even know what time the Dallas Cowboys play! OMG! I have to go find that out."

The eye is drawn to things that are out of place. As that colour belongs nowhere but on those gigantic comfy looking leather couches, it was out of place plastered all over those girls.

  38. gdare says:

    😆

  39. gdare says:

    Tits?

  40. sanshan says:

I think most men would agree they are "Great Tits".

  41. sanshan says:

And you didn't notice anything else that was fake? 🙄

You just described rugby there! 😆

  43. H82typ says:

Mmmm… Have you ever gone to a fight and have a rugby match break out? 😆 I think not. :p

  44. gdare says:

I've never been on rugby match either :left:

The fact they call it football when it involves barely any feet at all?

  46. gdare says:

    😆 My thought, exactly 😀

  47. sanshan says:

Whatever you call it, it's still a much more interesting game than SOCCER!

  48. derWandersmann says:

It should be noted that the term "American Football" is normally used to cover football as played in the USA, and Canadian football, usually played in (naturally) Canada … the Canadian variety is a much more interesting game to watch, because it moves faster … there are only 3 downs per possession. In addition, each team has 12 men on the field instead of 11, and the field is 110 yards (good English yards, not those French things that are "almost" as good) long, rather than 100. I used to live where we could pick up Canadian stations, and we'd usually watch them, by preference. On the other hand, I used to live in a flat that overlooked an athletic field across the street, and on weekends they'd play what I later found out was called Gaelic Football … I at first thought it was soccer played by a bunch of chaps that didn't know the rules. Damnedest thing, trying to dope out the rules by watching play … almost like trying to figure out cricket by observation.Or sheepshead … gawd!Chuck! WTF you been, boy? I noticed a coupla days ago that I hadn't seen you in a long time.

  49. Furie says:

Soccer (also known as actual football) is a game of skill able to be played by people who can't spell Game, Skill or Of, and that pays those people millions just for showing up. The whole culture is driven by overweight men, wearing shirts they haven't been able to fit in for about thirty years, and drinking so much beer that the urge to put broken glass into strangers and pee themselves are constantly over-riding each other. There's a reason they call it the beautiful game.
