It was around 21:30 when it started. Whole day was warm and humid, sticky, as we usually say here. Typical June in Serbia. And rain almost every evening.
When I was coming home from training it was obvious a storm was approaching – air was still but stars and moon were covered with heavy clouds and flashes of light appeared here and there. Suddenly, a wind, strong and reffreshing, felt so fine on a warm body, started to wave crowns of trees and sound of thunder shook the silence. I hurried home even though I was tempted to stay out for a while and feel first drops that came a minute later.
It lasted nearly whole night…

We had cloud bursts yesterday. It's what they call it when it rains as hard as possible. That is 15 mm of rain within 30 minutes of time. You'll be soaked in ten seconds, if you aren't dressed in plastic. Lightning too. It lasted only 20 minutes or so, but enough for some roads to flood.
Wish we could get just a bit of refreshing rain. Temps have been right around 100 deg. F. for the last couple of weeks, with high humidity driving the heat index up to around 105-110 deg. F. Feels like late July, early August.Been kind of crazy weather this year.:eyes:

It's funny how many really good shots of lightning look a little fake. I think it's because it's so bright. I love storms :happy:
A thunder storm over land is nothing compared to a thunder storm over sea. I did some sailing with an old topsail schooner a couple of summers some ten years ago. If a thunder storm creeps up on a ship in open water, there is nothing to do but to get all sails down and just wait for it to blow away, praying the waves will stay calm. You have lightning everywhere, all around you at any times as long as it lasts. Pretty awesome, but also scary as Hell. I have some pictures of it somewhere.

Thunder storms are amazing, especially the more violent ones. I even enjoy a good Nor'easter, too, as long as I am nice and safe indoors :)We had a tornadoe in the Western part of our state last week. We never get those here. It did so much damage, and to make matters most, the police are trying to deal with a bunch of jerks that are plungering what is left of people's homes. You'd think everyone would come together to help each other.
We had the same weather, too. I was actually on a day-trip (or 24-hour trip more like it) Oslo/Copenhagen/MalmΓΆ/Copenhagen/Oslo and when I reached MalmΓΆ, the sky just opened up. Lightning was everywhere and it was the kind of rain that just drenches you right into the bone, no matter how fast you run.I don't care for it much, but lightning can be pretty awesome! Especially when there's no thunder to go with it.

WOW! amazing picture! that still before a storm is so cool. and the air you described so wonderful. you mention much rain, but is lightening like this typical in June also? it was 9 years ago when we moved municipalities that we encountered tons of lightening during June and beyond… some amazing light shows! I was holding my youngest who was a baby at the time in my arms before bed, rocking her and BAM! one struck very close to the window, I could see it go toward the ground- never seen such a thing! or felt!

Sure… I knew about the date. Just forgot what date it was today. Typical. Sometimes I have to check my phone to find out what day of the week it is. It's always been like that. I believe absentminded is the term. Not absinthminded… That is something entirely different but somehow similar even so…
