But you succeeded in rip his jacket. It should be the uwa gi but I am not sure.

  2. thetomster says:

πŸ˜† … hope you could fix it :ninja:

  3. gdare says:

Dirk, I`ve bought staples :lol:Lorenzo, it is Aikido uwagi, yes. An old one, as you can tell. I will ask him how long he is using it, it must be a decade by now or so

  4. LorenzoCelsi says:

It must be 3cm thick. My karate gi started to rip after 2 or 3 years of washing. Manual washing. But since there wasn't much grappling, it ripped between the legs.

  5. LorenzoCelsi says:

The major advantage is weight. That is why competitions have weight categories. The reason is the more heavy you are and the more power you can both absorb and deliver. Of course there are some weak spots where weight doesn't matter like the nose. Height is an advantage for reach but a skilled fighter can close the distance and enter in your guard. Once he is there, your height becomes a disadvantage because you are slower.

  6. LorenzoCelsi says:

In ancient fencing they fought with a long sword and a shorter one or a knife, that was to cover both the long and short distance.

  7. gdare says:

    In fencing too :knight:

  8. gdare says:

In Aikido, it first goes on knees (in zubon and hakama) and on shoulders and back (in uwagi). This is why I prefer judo gi, it lasts much longer πŸ˜€

  9. edwardpiercy says:

In boxing it's called "reach" (arm length) and having it is considered to be an advantage.

  10. edwardpiercy says:

Smaller boxers move in close too — if they can get there without being punched in the face first. :lol:Thanks for the info. I appreciate it!

  11. gdare says:

Ed, I don`t really know I got used to it by now :POn a serious note, one of the most important things in martial arts is movement so smaller people can naturally move faster. I must use what I have, long legs and arms πŸ˜€

  12. edwardpiercy says:

It looks like some avant gard ballet. :DBTW is it an advantage or a disadvantage being tall in Akido?

  14. sanshan says:

    It's a skirt. πŸ™„

  15. spooksister says:

what's the significance of the wide black pants?

my dad is a big man like you Darko . if you see him practicing Judo you will forget his age! long legs , arms and all! Akido ,Judo (Kodokan as he calls it)is all technique! one more time that size and age do not matter! :p

  17. sanshan says:

I think that knowing your opponent's vulnerabilities such as where he is ticklish could prove to be a major advantage.

  18. Suntana says:

Steven Segal is listed as being 6-Foot 4-Inches and he did very well in that Aikido thing. Well, in the movies anyway. WHAT? No Black Belt, Darko? :insane:

  19. edwardpiercy says:

Steven Sagal wore a skirt a couple of times. I mean as a martial arts thing.

  20. sanshan says:

I wonder if Steven Segal wore Pink Panther boxers under his skirt.

  21. Suntana says:

Darko, you missed on the perfect golden opportunity. You had him right dead smack in prime position … for BITING his arm. :headbang: He would have gone down crying. Advantage, Darko. Oops! Wait a minute. That's Tennis. πŸ˜†

  22. gdare says:

Kimmie, yup :DAngeliki, your father practices judo? Kodokan is a place for practicing judo in Tokyo and Osaka I think, did he ever managed to go there and practice?, tickling is not fair :irked:Sal, in Aikido, a person who wears hakama (wide black pants) is a master of that martial art; one has right to wear it when he/she gets 1st DAN (like black belt in karate); in other martial arts such as Iaido, Battodo or Kyudo (archery) they are part of training equipment no matter the rank; they could be in various colours, too.San, no it is not :irked:Carlos, when I saw some of his footages when he was younger, his technique and movements were perfect, also he was, and probably still is, very strong man and practicing with him was not always a pleasure, I guess :PAs for biting my opponents arm, this technique is called Kokyu Nage and at this particilar moment he has his elbow right under my chin – I simply have no chance to do anything :left:Ed, I will try to find something on You Tube and post a link here :DSaaaaandy, you don`t have to reveal everything

  23. gdare says:

Even though this was made for presentation, they arranged all the attacks, some of his counter attacks are painful for uke (assistant) :left:

  24. studio41 says:

I am very happy that your head has since been reattached!

no, but he was at the special Greek forces (black beret ) and he had to be trained in Judo, underwater defense, and anything that has to do with the commando training. Both my kids are training in Karate but when around grandpa they become little lambs πŸ˜†

  29. Suntana says:

1993 … He had already done 5 of his movies by then.I had forgotten his 1st movie, Above the Law was way back in 88.Steven looks like such a big brute, a bully in that YouTube.Couldn't they match him up more appropriately? They freakin' paired him up with a teenager Boy Scout … a foot shorter and 20 pounds lighter for Pete's Sake. Sheesh!

  30. L2D2 says:

What is Steven Segals rank Darko?

  31. gdare says:

Angeliki, he was ninja, then :ninja:Carlos, you must not forget that both of them have higher Aikido ranks, not high as him but probably high enough with considerable experience in martial arts :left:Linda, as far as I know he has 7th DAN now :left: For a westerner, this is pretty high.

  32. There2ia says:

Stevan Seagal… I like his movies…They are very good pictures, nice shot but I hope your head and arms are still there…:pirate:

his wall climbing was never good but the underwater breath holding was alway reaching records, no he was a black beret not a ninja πŸ™‚

  38. raniakasim says:

i saw a sword in ur photo albumis this sport so dangerous

  39. gdare says:

Angeliki, black berrets and other special forces are sometimes reffered as ninjas, as some kind of a joke and admiration of their strength and skill :yes:Rania, if you practice hard and follow the rules, it is not dangerous for you. Small cuts here and there happen but it is usual in martial arts πŸ™‚

  40. There2ia says:

this what Stevan Seagal likes… less talk more action… least hurt…

  41. thaodp says:

:impression: Today, when I started watching a film about ninjas I was :eyes: "Is that Darko? He moves to USA? maybe he's preparing to go to Canada" :sherlock: Well, but he did not lose his head … πŸ˜† Like your album

They used bokkens!!! About ten years ago, my friend and me spared with bokkens and he cut the skin on my head. I was reckless and payed for it. I think I lost about a glass of blood, the cut was about 2cm long

  48. Words says:

The photos are great (and I think San is a tactical genius!!!)

  49. sanshan says:

Thank you Words. You are quite correct. πŸ™‚
