Some of you know that I broke my practicing sword about three months ago. It was during the training, I was performing a kata when suddenly entire blade broke in two pieces and one of them got stuck on the wooden floor. It was a good thing no one got hurt. Since iaito (practicing sword) blades are made of zink-aluminium alloy, there must have been some small crack that, after few years of practice, came to the stage that it just needed one harder swing to split the blade in half.
Anyway… I needed to order a new one from Japan and about two weeks ago it arrived.
Everything is ready for a new practicing season now.
GANBATTE KUDASAI!!!

Very nice indeed. What's the blade like?
π waiting to see new practicing images π
:hat: that looks good … hopefully it feels like it looks while practicing
Sorry to hear about the accident to the last one :eyes: Glad the replacement has now arrived!
Whew! I was worried there for a minute when I read the "One step back …" title. Normally that conjures up thoughts of something negative, a regression. Like there's Paula Abdul's song Opposites Attract::sing: I take-2 steps forwardI take-2 steps backWe come togetherCuz opposites attract. But, I get it now, Darko. You're one step back to resuming Ass Kicking, Busting Heads, Riffraff Ridding Mania. :headbang: Of course, it'll probably be tough to start the whole routine from scratch:Wax On Wax OffPaint the FenceSand the Floor
Good to hear that you received it. Was the old one American-made? That could have been the problem right there. π
Bud, you traitor! Happy that you got your sword replaced. It will probably feel a bit strange till it and you get to know each other. Happy thrusting and parrying!
Now you can prepare for fourth dan?
Swords are not our forte (in case you don't watch the Discovery Channel). π
Kimmie, I will make a phot of the blade and post it here :)Dirk, it feels good to have it in hand; I will try it in wednesday :up:Mit, I will make some photos in a next few months then make another post about it :)Adele, I am glad too. The one I used as a replacement was a very bad :left:Carlos, now I will have that song stuck in my head for a whole day :irked: :PBud, no it was Japanese too. Those things happen (braking blades) but are very rare – I have heard only for two cases in last 24 years but one of them ended with a death toll :(Linda, I chosed this one carefully, because I was not able to hold it in hands and estimate ballance and weight. But so far it feels good. Hopefully I didn`t make a mistake :up:San, yes, I am preparing for 4th DAN and hopefully I will have exam next year π
I hope you feel it at one with your hand and arm soon. New is always an adjustment, but wow is it very beautiful!
Sal, I had a video in past, of me practicing iaido kata. Those swords are not live blade swords, they are made of zinc-aluminium and are meant only for kata practice. Good real swords are very expensive π
It looks so tame – I would like to see some photos of it in action π
Thanks Jen π
Glad you got a new sword. What does "GANBATTE KUDASA" mean?
Ganbatte Kudasai means Give your best, Do the best you can, something like that. It is meant to encourage person(s) to do (some job) the best they can
I`ve just updated post with another photograph with sword details. Kimmie, I hope you and other people who access web by phones will be able to see it
Thank you Darko. I like that saying. I'd use it like this "In life Ganbatte Kudasai". π
Why is the tip a different color than the blade?
Beautiful! I hope that you and your sword will become good friends.
π
Not live blade swords? :eyes:For some reason, in the Pic above, that Zinc-Aluminum sword looks deceptively like it could slice a car engine in half in one swoop. :insane:
Bud, it is different angle of the blade at that point :DEd, thanks, I hope so, too :cheers:Carlos, yes, it looks just like that. And real swords look like that too π
When I saw the sword I remembered about Ninja… are you becoming the return Ninja ? :ninja: … The blade looks fantastic! Ganbatte Kudasai! Next Stage…
Oo, I like.

Teresia, no, no ninja. Samurais had much better swords :yes:Kimmie :DAngeliki, photos, please π
Beautiful sword, Dare. Looks smart but business-like, too. Not just an ornate toy. Hope this one turns out to be sturdy, true and durable.
I think Dare should start a new career, photographer of Battado swords.
Well, you might have something there, San, maybe in photography in general. He does some neat compositions.
Teresia, I know what would be interesting to most of people who never saw that kind of sword for real :)San π
San, In your heart… π
I wonder where his photo studio is?
Darko must like the detail he shows on the pictures…He did it very well to get the details…
Linda, it may sound as I am playing with swords π but that piece of metal and hard practice made of me what I am today. Thank you :happy:San, I don`t think I would earn much money from that as a career but who knows… I may try one day π
very exciting for you- !!
Tomorrow is a first training in a new season, can`t wait to try it π
GOOD LUCK!:ninja:
Thanks π
I'm excited for you!!
I call shenanigans! :p
Wow! She's double excited! π
*laughs and considers* It IS a pretty sword…
Jen thanks π I will have a training in 3 hours :happy:Hey, you have a photo in your avatar π
Suit up then Dare. I feel good about this. :DAnd yes. Yes, I do. It's called: "I don't wanna smile" π
He has to finish his ironing first. π
:irked:
