I wanted to make a post about airports, but while I was strolling through a You Tube recordings, in a darkness of some concerts and loud music, I stumbled over a song that I have almost forgot. Here are the lyrics:
They ask me how I knew
My true love was true
I of course reply
Something inside
Cannot be denied
They said some day you'll find
All who love are blind
When your heart's on fire
You must realise
Smoke gets in your eyes
So I chaffed them
And I gayly laughed
To think they could doubt
To think they could doubt my love
But today
My love has flown away
I am without my love
Now laughing friends deride
Tears I cannot hide
So I smile and say
When a lovely flame dies
Smoke gets in your eyes
But today my love has flown away
I am without
I'm without my love
And now laughing friends deride
Tears I cannot hide
So I smile and say
When a lovely flame dies
Smoke gets in your eyes
Made in 1933. for operetta "Roberta" by American composer Jerome Kern (lyrics by Otto Harbach), the song itself had more than thirty covers by now. From Billie Holiday to Jason Donovan, from Glenn Miller to Zoot (Muppet Show character). Probably the most succesfull cover was made by The Platters in 1958. It was used in several movies, American Graffiti, for instance.
The version I like the most is the one I have stumbled upon. Brian Ferry, year 2000, concert in Paris

I would watch but I'm getting "cannot connect to server". Stupid network :irked:
Oh did I love that song at school dances. Not that I went to that many because my boyfriend didn't like to dance but we'd dance to this one. It was nice, slow and romantic.
nice!a perfect music for after a very long day! thanks!
Beautiful song, Darko.
I had the album by the Platters with the song, back when it was released. I LOVED this song by the Platters. It made me feel—I distinctly remember—-VERY romantic—-and it still does. Even though it was actually a sad song.
Kimmie, hopefully you will be able to watch it today :up:Star, have you heard this one before? Thanks :)Pam, I can sort of understand your boyfriend because I don`t dance, but I would go anyway. I like to listen to music :DAngeliki, you are welcome, I hope your day was pleasant, though :DLinda, I can`t even remember when I have heard for it first time; I guess it was by the Platters and that it was played on a radio – since I was a kid, radio is turned on everytime I am at home. I can live without TV but radio is different thing π
I had one of those "Best of The Platter" or Platters Golden Hits or something, and I played it so much, I just simply wore it out. Got to the point where there was more scratch than song.
Sad song.
π
It is, but smoke gets in eyes sometimes π

For those of you too young to remember the Platters—this video has original 50s footage. That smooth voice turned me on then and it still does now.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r2pEdc1_lIhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57tK6aQS_H0http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hSY2km2IQYand a couple more.
