Evening with Metallica

After all the snow from a last week today weather changed a bit and rain started during afternoon. Tuesday is one of the (rare) days when I don`t have a training so I planned to go to cinema, but because of rain I decided to stay at home. Few days ago I have heard a song on a radio that sounded familiar to me – old Metallica song – but a singer was female and whole arrangement was "modern" if you know what I mean. So I went to You Tube (where else?) to try to find a video. At first I enter "Metallica" in search field and I got this as a first result. An old Irish traditional song made in XVII century… I think they won a Grammy with it…

:sigh: I wish parties I visit these days are at least half wild as this one. But I am almost 40 and somehow this doesn`t suit me anymore… or is it just me? :left: Few months ago I was at a party one of my frends organized and I was the oldest one there….. but this is another story 😛
Ha, I got you. A singer is Stefanie Heinzmann and a song is Unforgiven. I bet a lot of you remember it.

Well, I don`t know. It sounds nice but I am probably old fashioned and original version has a bit more strength in it. This one is made, you know, like for a party or as a "good morning" song to help you wake up….. If you don`t believe me, try to find the original in You Tube 😛
Hmmmm… while I am here let`s take a look what else is there. Enter Sandman… For Whom The Bell Tolls (I loved Hemingway 😀 )… Master of Puppets… Ohhhh. Yes. This one….

Absolute beauty. There was also a version made by Apocalyptica and I listened it just because I wanted to see a video but nothing can beat the original.
I was never a big fan of Metallica but they released live album S&M with San Francisco Symphony and somehow I got hooked. Real Metallica fans would probably shake their heads upon me but I can`t help it. I was different type of music guy 😀

S&M is my favourite Metallica album. The orchestra and band complement each other perfectly, and of course there are two tracks not released on any other album. I do not like covers of Metallica, I know Apocalyptica are very liked but I do not like them. I certainly will not listen to any covers anymore. I am stubborn. However, Metallica's album Garage Inc is two discs, the first disc is Metallica doing covers, of songs that inspired their music. I love all of those tracks, and I think Metallica have performed them better than most of the originals. Before you think I am biased – I hate every single thing Metallica have done since they released St Anger, it was terrible, and Death Magnetic is worse. I hardly listen to them any more. They broke my heart. James Hetfield used to be my hero when I was small 😆

an amazing collection of songs Darko,I did see them in two concerts ,First time in Philadelphia and another time in Boston, going to another US city and buying an airline tkt to Boston on the top of the concert tkt plus the hotel are now dreams of the past but I am glad I did see them … It was worth it big time!thank you very much for sharing

  4. Furie says:

I'm a fan and gotta say S&M really shows off their songs a lot better than regular live shows do. The orchestral addition is wonderful and surprisingly fits the songs as if they were originally written that way.Love their version of Whiskey In The Jar. It rocks. :headbang:

  5. Spaggyj says:

Yes, the first disc has covers of Tuesday's Gone – by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Astronomy – by Blue Oyster Cult, Die Die My Darling – by Danzig, Sabbra Cadabra – by Black Sabbath, Turn The Page – by Bob Seger, et cetera. And of course, Whiskey In The Jar.

  6. Furie says:

Very serious musicians. Some of the old ones are amazing in all senses of the word. Master Of Puppets is an awesome album, both lyrically and orchestrally.

  7. gdare says:

Kimmie, I will let you know 🙂

  8. gdare says:

Pam – the first song I`ve heard from that album was Nothing Else Matters; it was a shock in a most positive way :ko:

  9. Spaggyj says:

I hope you will like it

  10. PainterWoman says:

Never saw them in concert but I love the combination of an orchestra and a heavy metal group. It makes for a very unique sound.

  11. gdare says:

Marike – I am glad there are people who like the same songs I do, no matter the age; I was listening many sorts of music and some of them remained favourites for ever :D:sing:What I've feltWhat I've knownNever shined through in what I've shownNever beNever seeWon't see what might have beenWhat I've feltWhat I've knownNever shined through in what I've shownNever freeNever meSo I dub thee unforgiven… :sing:

  12. gdare says:

Kimmie – I will have to find it in music stores :yes:Mik – I was just listening Master of Puppets in You Tube 😀

  13. gdare says:

Kimmie – Garage Inc? Now you got me interested. I have bought S&M few years ago and listened to it until I got sick of some songs :eyes: Then I made a pause and now I can listen to them again 😀 I am sorry they disappointed you, maybe they are going under some sort of lack with ideas, or after reaching a peak they are going slowly down. Maybe it is time for them to retire. I don`t know. But they have certainly left their mark in history of music.Angeliki – now I am jealous too :left: First I missed two opportunities to go to Pink Floyd concerts, then I missed Metallica in Belgrade in 2007. now I can`t even remember what happened so I wasn`t there. MY friend told me it was among best concerts he has ever seen :left:Mik – I was talking to one of my friends when S&M album was released, telling her how I liked the idea of playing live along with symphonic orchestra; she told me that they are serious musicians and I was :eyes: at her – I could swear she has never listened anything except soul and jazz – and then she started to explain why she thinks that; don`t remember much of her explanation now, she mentioned a lot of their songs I have never heard for before, but then I decided to buy S&M :DBtw, it is snowing again outside :eyes: Weird day….

  14. Marike79 says:

 'unforgiven' I think will be my most memorable song from my time in high school… I just love it!!! I don't like re-makes of songs I usually prefer the original 😀

  15. AnitaMargita says:

The song "Whisky in the jar" is very good for waking up, especially if it is loud, and with a cup of :coffee: of course! I was listening Metalica in my high school years too :D, while the others were obsessed with turbo-folk :yuck:

  16. Marike79 says:

I can't explain the emotions I feel when I read those words… It reminds me of my bid school crush, that I thought I would marry oneday… but I didn't ….:sst: I'm not much younger than you :p

  17. gdare says:

AnitaMargita – I know exactly what you mean; when I was young, people who listened new folk music (turbo folk appeared when I was over 20) were rare; in high school we were divided to a kind of music we listened – punk, rock, blues, electronica; music determined our clothing and code of acting, put us in groups of people with similar interests; I like to think it was all very progressive; I don`t know what happened after that, cheap living was good for develop of cheap music :awww:Marike – I have always connecting some songs with a girls I had a crush with 😆 And, age doesn`t matter at all, I still feel as I am 20+

  18. Dacotah says:

    😀

  19. Zaphira says:

Dare I say that I like S&M too?! :left:I was never a big Metallica fan, but I like some of their music. And Lars Ulrik is a fantastic drummer!

  20. rose-marie says:

Parties get slower when you're 40? :awww:

  21. Marike79 says:

    what about 30? :awww:

  22. gdare says:

Well, at least less wild. But you must know that by now

  23. gdare says:

Carol – :DZaph – S&M is fantastic, I must say it despite the fact I am repeating myself; I am wondering do you like Lars Ulich because he is Danish?

  24. Zaphira says:

He is Danish allright. He's got viking blood in his veins. :D:lol:

  25. ricewood says:

 I think I am good at skimming texts – obviously I'm not. Sorry.

  26. ricewood says:

I can't say that I am the biggest Metallica fan on the face of this planet – but I always kept an eye on them – mostly because one of the band members is Danish. Lars Ulrich, the drummer.

  27. Marike79 says:

    😆 I like your thinking 😉

  28. gdare says:

    Don't be 😀

  29. Marike79 says:

😆 I'll be 30 this year and was worried about leaving my 20ties behind

  30. Marike79 says:

    😆 you'll have to wait :p

  31. gdare says:

Marike – 30 is still ok if you don't visit parties with 20 years kids 😛 I like to say that life begins in 30th :DAllan – read few comments above 😀 Zaph has just mentioned him 😀

  32. gdare says:

 And put some photos please 😀

  33. Marike79 says:

😀 ok I'll let you know how it goes :p

  34. gdare says:

No problem, I bet they will be priceless 😀

  35. Furie says:

Marike, I know that fear. I know it well 😥

  36. Marike79 says:

    a picture where?

  37. Furie says:

She finally posted a photo of herself.

  38. gdare says:

Marike – 😉 Mik meant that Zaph put her photo up there among comments :lol:Allan – no problem, it happens to me all the time when there are a lot of comments; then I have to read them all over again :DMik – it has sequels? no, I don't think so, is there anything on You Tube? I can check on it in the evening :up:I remember that one 😆

  39. Marike79 says:

    😆

  40. Marike79 says:

that was scary! I think that I only have say 30 years left so I'm halfway? yea I know I could die any moment, but to be counting down the years….. :insane:ps. do you like 'the cure'

  41. Furie says:

Unforgiven is a classic song, full of the fear of aging we all have. Have you heard the first sequel?

  42. gdare says:

    😀

  43. Furie says:

Check out Unforgiven II but avoid Unforgiven III as it doesn't fit properly. If you can't find I'd be happy to mail it you. 😀

  44. gdare says:

Ok, I will try in the evening

  45. gdare says:

Mik, I`ve just checked on Unforgiven II, excellent song. As you said, Unforgiven III is such a disappointment :awww:

  46. wickedlizard says:

Personally I prefer Metallica's version. Even the one with orchestral music is brilliant.

  47. gdare says:

Me too, Issy. Me too 😀

  48. edwardpiercy says:

WOW! That was some frigging party! The down side: cleaning up the next day.Stefanie is a little fox and I like her voice, but I like the original version better — like you say, "a bit more strength."Metallica + SFSO = Yanni. :lol:Just joking. I liked it better than I thought I would. :up:Danke schon.

  49. wickedlizard says:

 Edward's a headbanger! :hat:  😆
