Today I went to a main open market place in center of Zemun, well known Zemunska pijaca 😀 I needed some fresh fruit and honey and thought it would be a nice idea to make a few photos. "Few photos" turned out to be about 40, and I put here only few 😆
As far as I could found, open market in Zemun existed in 18th century, because this part of town was close to the port on Dunav (Danube). Zemun was, during long parts of its history, border town and in the crossing point of lots of roads and river ways between south east and nort west part of Europe.
It is still winter, so I didn`t expected to find anything spectacular but I was wrong. Among a piles of imported lemons, grape fruits, bananas and oranges
I have found even strawberries :eyes:
but of that "artificial" kind, without taste as "real" strawberries and very expensive :left:
There were a lot of dried fruits – peaches, plums, cherries, apples, candied strawberries and apricots,
different kinds of nuts,
beans, onion, dried grinded paprika,
red radish, celtuce, Brussels sprout,
corn, wheat, sunflower and pumpkin seed,
pickled vegetables,
button mushrooms,
fresh carp,
eggs,
even flowers 😆
Have a nice sunday 😀
Yes I did, beautiful sweet oranges and gold yellow honey 😀
That sounds like a local delicacy, at least I have never heard of peanuts like that. Mmm. 🙂
Interesting post! I love markets like that, but I only see them when I am on vacation!Did you get your fruit and honey? 🙂
Oh I haven't been to an open market place for ages! I should go to Futoška in next couple of weeks… The fruit in Maxi is more expensive x)
Yum! 😛 I bought oranges today as well, but at a greengrocer. 😀
And I was really tempted to buy some dried peaches and peanuts covered with caramel sugar and white sesame 😛
only oranges and honey!?:no:i would have had a fresh produce orgy at that market! :p it looks like the quality there is so much better than even the formal stores here. overseas gets all the best fruit and veg. give it back! :Dsuch great photos Dark! felt like being there… i love fresh things like this…
Well, I know x)But, nah, the market's too far from my flat x)
pity about the tasteless strawberries. those are EVERYWHERE! :frown: i think we must protest about this. :p
What a nice edible post! :chef: Like Capegirl, I would have bought far too much there! :DHow much are the strawberries (tasteless or otherwise)? In England, they're very expensive at this time of year.
@Tilla – it is excellent, maybe you should try to find it in Copenhagen, peanuts don`t grow here so it must be something we have seen elsewhere :)@Bojan – you should, I know you will be surprised with prices (as you can see in my photos) and diversity
Nice post man  Love the photos."Artificial" strawberries? :eyes:
Great pictures .Do you use both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabet?
@Michelle – no, I don`t want to give it back 😡 😆 it was really nice for me to see all of it, I wanted to buy everything :Dand about strawberries, I would so much love to eat them, mmmmmm :)@Bojan – it is worth that effort @Adele – in this time of year, as you can see they are 200 dinars and this is about 2,50 eur :eyes: in spring, when they start to grow everywhere, it will be less than 0,50 eur, if the year is good @Dannii – I call them artificial because they don`t grow out in the open – this one in a photo doesn`t even taste like strawberries, just water and shape :(@Rose – thank you; yes we use both alphabet; do you know to read cyrilic?
"water and shape"ha ha ha ROFLMAO! yup, that's about it, but you forgot color…treacherous color-pretending to be juicy strawberry! 😡
"water and shape"ha ha ha ROFLMAO! yup, that's about it, but you forgot color…treacherous color-pretending to be juicy strawberry! 😡
yes, but pure logic says: no strawberries during winter are possible:lol:
it is quite possible to feel betrayed by a berry.
yes, you are right, the color too :irked::lol:
😆
but ours are that way during summer, honey! in cape town the best fruit is available at the traffic lights! *but you could also get killed there* *and it's worth it* 😆
Well, probably, except Serbian strawberries in May 😀
There's nothing like Danish strawberries in July!
No way! 😀
wonderful pictures; almost like being right there… that'd be some omelet were you to grab all of those eggs, Darko!
Scandinavian wild strawberries are the best – no protest :p :lol:No, I only know a few letters of the Cyrillic alphabet. Enough to decipher some words, but not enough to read it :).
Wild strawberries are much better than ordinary ones. :Yum:But once you've tasted scandinavian strawberries, you'll never want any others, that's for sure!
No, I am sure that if you tasted Serbian wild strawberries you would forget for all the others. From entire world. That counts for blueberries too 😀
@Jill – yes :chef: :D@Rose – what serbian words do you know?and no, wild strawberries from Serbia are the best 😛
😮 Not blueberries! I sense a berry war coming on! :lol:Do you want me to list all the words I know in Serbian here :eyes:? Remember – I can't write it :p.
I don't have to, Serbian are the best 😀
So, have you ever tasted Danish strawberries?
No, you don't need to list all of them, just few to surprise me :DI can understand your frustration because our berries are the best in the world 😀
i have not weapons for this war. 😀 i cannot compete in this competition..i have been outberried! 😆
but i DID. i admitted to being outberried. i mean how hard is THAT!? :p
you don't have to fight, just accept the truth 😀
you can send some of your strawberries…. just to try them 😀
Ja volim svedske jagode :D.
*claps the hands*Excellent!!!!!!Just not correct :(You should say: Ja volim srpske jagode 😀
Srpske? I can't even imagine how people are able to pronounce a word with that many consonants! :eyes:Sveske is the Danish word for prune. 😀
Amazing! One question: I don't know what is the outside temperature but I would be worried to let eggs at a warm temperature for a long time, wouldn't be safer to keep them in some kind of fridge?Oh and none of you have tried Quebec strawberries for sure! 😀
Thanks Louis.Temperature was about 18C that day but there was not any danger for eggs or for someone`s health. People who are selling eggs usually sell everything they have in a day or two. As far as I can remeber, we have almost always buying eggs in open market, for a whole year and nothing ever happened to us. In shops and supermarkets, eggs are in refrigerators, of course.Quebec strawberries? Never heard of 😛
I understand. Here in North America, they try to scare us about all those potential dangers with food but sometimes they go too far. At one point, they banned raw-milk cheese from supermarkets saying that it was a dangerous product!Dangerous? People have eaten raw-milk cheese for millennium!! 🙄
i cannot send any strawberries *for fear of ridicule*
😀
Good luck with that  😆
Think your strawberries are the best, do you? Well, TAG! Muahahahaha! :devil:That should teach you :D.
:mad:I have seen it coming, few seconds ago in your blog….I will think about some revenge
My strawberries are still the best… and blueberries, too 😀
